Photography Club Holiday Party

Our December 20th meeting will have a slightly different feel to it and a different location just for this month.

We will be doing a potluck along with our meeting. The meeting will be held at Roman and Angie’s place of business, Welcome Home Management Company. There they have a full kitchen so if you need to bring something to warm up, they have the resources for that.

The physical address is 1135 Hwy 7 West. Again, if you type it in to Google Maps, it may not show up at the right spot. It is located directly East of Jay Malone Motors in Hutchinson.

http://g.co/maps/fh8t2 (the locator is over the top of Jay Malone, but we are the long brown building just to the right of the “A” locator)

Roman has several entrances to the building, but if you use the front door (east front), you should be able to get in just fine.

So please bring a dish to pass, a cocktail if you’d like and we’ll relax and have a nice evening.

November 2011 Meeting Minutes

Hutchinson Photography Club Minutes

November 15, 2011,
7:00 p.m. at the Hutchinson Center for the Arts

This evening’s meeting was conducted by Vice-President Roman Bloemke.   There were a total of 9 in attendance with three (3) guest  speakers:  Tom Wirt, Bill Corby and Dennis Nelson.

Center for the Arts presentation by Tom Wirt:

Tom explained to those in attendance the benefits of becoming a member to the Center for the Arts.  The cost would be $250 a year for the first two years.  The third year would be $500.

Benefits:
•We would have access to a meeting room and projector equipment.
•Show space to have our annual show.
•Membership would also provide great networking as it brings all of the arts together in one location.
•Able to use the center as a fiscal agent if we wish to write a grant.
•Would be covered by insurance
•Access to  their credit card machine
•As well as  other groups need photographers to help promote their functions.

The group felt very receptive to this idea.  Final discussion will take place at the Board Meeting on December 1, 2011.
Chamber of Commerce proposal by Bill Corby:

Bill asked if we would be interested in taking photos of various events throughout the year in Hutchinson.  The Chamber would use the photos in promotional materials and in exchange for 100 useable prints the Chamber would pay our fee to become a member of the Hutchinson Center for the Arts.  There are several different events the Chamber would like pictures from:

June
Music in the park- Library Square
Dairy Day- Library Square
Hutchinson Water Carnival- Citywide
July
Orange Spectacular
River Song Festival
August
MN Garlic Festival
McLeod County Fair
September
Annual Arts and Crafts Festival
Taste of Hutchinson
McLeod County Senior Expo

Locations to Shoot:
Hutch Chamber/CVB
Luce Line Trail
Crow River
Fishing ( on local lakes)
Animal Sanctuary
Veterans Memorial Park
Softball at Roberts
Library Square
Downtown Hutchinson
Odd fellow’s Park
Picnic Shelters with people in them
Playground at Jaycee Park
Inside mall (people shots)
The Chamber would be given rights to the photos, however, the photographer would be given credit in the picture.
The group felt very receptive to this idea.  Final discussion will take place at the Board Meeting on December 1, 2011.

Education Topic:
Bill Corby and Dennis Nelson were in attendance and critiqued the photos that were selected with blue, red and white ribbons from our October show. Their comments were very helpful and informative.
December’s topic: None at this time due to the holidays.

Monthly Project:
Congratulations to Roman Bloemke for winning this month’s subject of “Products for Sale”.  His photograph was titled “4×4″ and will be on display at the library and on our website.

December’s topic: Culinary Creations

Discussion:

Fundraising:
How can we as a group generate funds to be able to pay for a potential membership and/or speakers?  Cash Wise has been contacted to see if we can
be scheduled for the food stand in the summer.  We will have to contact them in April 2012.   Culvers and Pizza Ranch in Glencoe have nights where we could help serve to receive a percentage of the sales.  Also, what about selling note cards, post cards, calendars?  Do we charge a membership fee?  other clubs do.

Project: Remember to take photographs of various objects the resemble the letters of the alphabet.  With the thought of spelling out “Hutchinson Photography Club”.
Upcoming Events:
Holiday gathering at our next meeting.  Watch the website for details.

Next Meeting: Tuesday, December 20 at 7 p.m.  Please watch the website for possible change in location.

Meeting Adjourned at 9:00 p.m.

Spooky Sprint 2011

I want to recognize and send out a special thank you to Julie Thompson, BJ Christensen and Barb Rieger. These members volunteered to take photos at the the Spooky Sprint on Saturday October 29th, which helped raise money for our club. The Spooky Sprint event staff was very pleased with the results, here is a comment by one of them.

“These look, amazing! I can’t tell you how much this adds to the event, thank you all so much for your efforts!” – Jason Werowinski

I have uploaded all of our combined photos to my website for participants to download, as well as purchase photos or merchandise with their photo on them.

Here is the link to the event photos

These profits obtained through my site for the Spooky Sprint photos will be paid out to the club to help raise more money for the club. We will be having more volunteer opportunities in the future to help raise money for our club. These funds will help cover club operating expenses and in the future purchase equipment that can be used by our Club Members.

Thanks again,
