New Club Membership

Current and Past Club Members,

In years past we have tried to operate as a free club, but with that choice came limited resources and options.  Those same limited resources and options has caused some past and current club members to stop coming.  This year we have been working hard to make changes to increase and maintain interest in our club.  We have many plans to continue to make this a successful club  including more seminars, workshops and field trips.

This year we are implementing a membership cost which will help us bring you more.  By implementing the club membership we were able to become partner members with the Hutchinson Center for the Arts.  With this partner membership we will have a new home at the Center for the Arts , which is located on Main Street.  This move will officially take place at our March meeting.  Since our
club will now be members of the Hutchinson Center for the Arts, it will open up new doors for us and help grow our club to provide even more benefits to you.  The biggest door that this partner membership opens is the help with writing grants, grants that can be used to purchase equipment and help bring in speakers to do seminars or workshops.

As part of the new membership drive we will be cleaning up the web site and mailing lists too.  We have many past members that have moved away and we don’t have accurate numbers for our club.  Some of our partner memberships invoice our club on a per member basis and without accurate numbers we may be getting charged additional money for past members.  As part of the clean up, effective April 1st, 2012, we will be removing non-member galleries, links to non-member web sites, and other areas reserved for club members.  To determine past or non-members we will be using the membership fee to determine who is active members and who is past members.

I encourage you to become active members and help grow our club into something great.  A place where we can come to learn about the world of photography and meet fun exciting people just like you.  For more information on our Club or the new membership please check out our web site.

Thanks,

Photographs of Hutchinson Needed

I have some exciting news to share with you about our club. As many of you have heard through meetings, meeting notes, our website and discussions we have been working with Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce to take photographs around Hutchinson over the course of 2012. These photos will be used in their marketing material and you will receive photography credit. In exchange for our club services they are going to cover our 2013 membership at the Hutchinson Center for the Arts. This membership will provide us many benefits including a new home outside of the Public Library. The Public Library has been great to us but we are out growing the capabilities it provides.

We have a finalized 2012 photography services contract with the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce and now we are asking each member to help with taking photographs by signing up on this Google document for the events or locations you are going to shoot.

Photography Sign up Sheet

There are roughly 130 required open spots and roughly another 130 optional spots. The optional spots are for people that have an interest in the location and event, but it is full and would still like to help cover it. We need to fill the required spots on a event/location before someone can sign up as an optional. Also note if there is an admission required for an event than the Chamber of Commerce will be providing us access, so please see BJ or Myself regarding those events.

At each meeting, starting in February, I will be collecting your final edited photographs in JPG electronic form. Then each quarter I will be meeting with the Chamber and delivering them the photographs. When you bring your photographs to the monthly meetings, you may bring them on CD, DVD, SD Card or USB Drive, then I will dump them onto my laptop.

Please make sure you follow the following format for naming the photograph file…

{location/event}-{Date}-{photographer}.jpg

example: “Orange Spectacular – 7_20_2012 – Timm Hagen.jpg”.

By using this format we will have the location, date and photographer to give proper credit. It also help organize the files when I give them to the Chamber. If you have any questions please contact BJ Christensen or myself.

I appreciate all the work that has been put into getting this contract and many thanks in advance for all the time that will be spent taking photographs of the Hutchinson Area.

Thanks,

Meeting Minutes

December 2011 Meeting Minutes

Hutchinson Photography Club Minutes
December 20, 2011, 7:00 p.m. at Welcome Home Management Company

This evening’s meeting was conducted by Vice-President Roman Bloemke. There were a total of 7 in attendance.

Chamber of Commerce proposal Update:
Timm Hagen is working with Bill Corby regarding the contract. The Chamber will pay the Photo club’s January 1, 2013, to December 31, 2013 membership fee to the Center for the Arts.

Question asked, do we become a member for the year 2012? The consensus was yes and that we use the money from the Spooky Sprint ($150) in addition to the photo orders (approx. $50+) from the website to put towards the $250 membership fee for 2012. (The rest to be generated through member dues – see under “Discussion”.)

Education Topic:
Nothing present due to the holidays.

Monthly Project:
Congratulations to Karin Jutta for winning this month’s subject of “Culinary Creations”. Her photograph was titled “A Delicious Breakfast” and will be on display at the library and on our website.

January’s topic: The Eyes Have It

Activities Committee Report:
Barb Rieger, Angie Bloemke and Andrea Markworth will assist BJ Christensen with the Activities Committee. Topic ideas offered to the committee: Filters, flash, white balance. It was noted that Jim Jordal would be willing to speak.

Discussion:

Fundraising: Discussion around calendars and cards to raise funds for this group. However, nothing definitive at this time. Suggestion: have a fundraising committee.

Grant: Roman will work with the Center for the Arts in writing a Grant, once we become a member.

Membership Dues: It was the consensus of those present to move forward with a membership dues. $25 for a year. By becoming a member of the Photography Club, “benefits” would include, the $5 fee to display your photos at the yearly show would be waived. Discounts at workshops offered through the club, the ability to display your photos at the center, the ability to sell your prints at the center.

It was commented that other clubs have a “membership card.” Nothing determined at this time.

Chamber Photos:
Roman will look into setting up a “Google Calendar” of all the events the Chamber wants photos of. It was felt that at least two people per event for coverage.

Recap of Annual Show:
• We should have signage at the front door.
• Table tents to remind the people to vote.
• Same size prints? – It was felt to leave as is. (Up to the photographer’s discretion)
• HDR should have its own category.
• Display by person vs. by category. It was felt by category made it easier for the judges.
• Monthly winners –some people voted on. These will not be eligible for the vote.
• Sale our prints? We would have access to the credit card machine through the Center of Arts.
• Have a guest book

Bylaws: to be discussed at the January meeting.

Upcoming Events:
Traveling mini-gallery.

Next Meeting: Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 7:00 at Library.

Meeting Adjourned at 8:00 p.m. followed by a pot-luck get together.

New Club Calendar

This year we are working even harder to provide our members with updated information and better communication. One of our ways to keep you better informed is with our new online Club Calendar. We are using this Club Calendar to inform you of future meetings, presentations, club trips, etc. We have provided two ways to interact with this new calendar. The first way is through the traditional website page view, which provides an excellent way to keep up to date from your home or work computer.

The second way is through the iCal system. With the iCal system, it allows you to subscribe to our Club Calendar with your smart phone (Android, iPhone, etc) or through another supporting calendar system on your home or work computer. Using this feature will keep you up to date automatically and effortlessly.

Look forward to seeing many more events added to our Club Calendar throughout the year.

Back to the Normal Location

Happy New Year!

This month we are back to our normal location at the Hutchinson Public Library from 7 to 9 pm. There has been a change in our scheduled presentation for this month due to a scheduling conflict with the presenter. Instead of the topic on Post-Processing, Roman and BJ are going to be doing a hands on Night time photography workshop.

Here is what they have in store

Our January 17th meeting will be held briefly at the Hutchinson Public Library but then will continue outdoors with some night photography. We will vote for the photo of the month and then move outside to take some photos. Let’s get our cameras in hand and have some fun!! Please dress accordingly and don’t forget your tripod.

Come out and enjoy the fun this month. Remember this month’s topic is “The Eyes have it”

Photography Club Holiday Party

Our December 20th meeting will have a slightly different feel to it and a different location just for this month.

We will be doing a potluck along with our meeting. The meeting will be held at Roman and Angie’s place of business, Welcome Home Management Company. There they have a full kitchen so if you need to bring something to warm up, they have the resources for that.

The physical address is 1135 Hwy 7 West. Again, if you type it in to Google Maps, it may not show up at the right spot. It is located directly East of Jay Malone Motors in Hutchinson.

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

http://g.co/maps/fh8t2 (the locator is over the top of Jay Malone, but we are the long brown building just to the right of the “A” locator)

Roman has several entrances to the building, but if you use the front door (east front), you should be able to get in just fine.

So please bring a dish to pass, a cocktail if you’d like and we’ll relax and have a nice evening.
